Green Space Design Competition

If you got an idea for an environmentally-sustainable living space based on shipping containers, we want to know!

Send it over to the Anugerah Hijau Green Space Design competition and you could see it turned into a real-world structure! That's not all, as the winning designer will score RM4,000 in cold hard cash, a hefty trophy as well as hampers and gift vouchers worth RM1,500. To add icing to the cake, a little bird told us that more goodies are on their way! Participating is as simple as submitting your idea and uploading the sketch on the official competition website. DENSO YOUTH for EARTH ACTION (DYEA) 2012 program

The DENSO YOUTH for EARTH ACTION (DYEA) 2012 program is back! This international program is a joint effort between DENSO Corporation and Japan Environmental Education Forum and will be conducted in six ASEAN countries - Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore - and Japan with the aim of fostering youth who has high level of awareness about coexistence between humans and the environment, and will actively make efforts to create a sustainable society. The participation is open to all UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, GRADUATES and WORKING ADULTS aged between 18 to 29 on the closing date of application. DNMY associates are also welcome to submit your application and promote this program to your family members/ friends. (more...)

Youth Network : Youth21

Youth21 Youth 21 is a global initiative to bring together young people across the world to engage with the United Nations and to nurture youth leadership towards democratic governance and Sustainable Development. As a part of the Youth 21 global initiative, GYAN along with youth organizations from around the world attended the Youth21 meeting to provide input into how the UN can better engage youth as leaders and decision-makers globally. Check out the website from the event and the Nairobi Declaration outcome text which provides guideline on selection of the UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Youth and also steps for establishing the UN permanent Forum on Youth and composition of a UN Youth Platform Assembly.

Rockin’ 4 the Environment: Sun Bear Rocks

[21 April - 27 April] Rockin' 4 the Environment - Sun Bear Rock! is an arts, music and cultural festival to celebrate South East Asia’s biodiversity and rich natural heritage while raising awareness and funds for local environmental education and conservation initiatives. We did it in 2009 and got the support from bands like Benchmarx, Pop Shuvit, Kyoto Protocol, Yuna, Rina Omar... so far, the program has raised RM55,000 in total from past events like Dugong Rock, Tiger Rock, Orangutan Rock etc mostly in Malaysia! In 2012, international schools in Jakarta and Singapore are participating too! This year, we're inviting you / your band to be a part of the Sun Bear Rock! festival from 21-27 April. One Day on Earth Global Screening

[22 April, 11.30am-1.30pm, University of Malaya] This Earth Day, we invite you to a free global screening event of the first One Day on Earth Motion Picture. Watch this unique film created from over 3000 hours of footage, and shot by our community in every country of the world on October 10th 2010. Together, we have created a picture of interconnected humanity never before possible. The show will be introduced by Shamz and a discussion will follow after the screening moderated by a few local Malaysian film makers. For more info, click here.

Green Drinks KL (March)

Earth Day 2012 – Mobilize the Earth- Save our Waterfalls

Charity Jumbo Sale

A friend of mine is going to spend 10 weeks in remote areas in Sabah to help with the construction of a kindergaten. There will be a Charity Jumbo Sale to raise funds for this project.
